PAGAN BACKS PLAYERS OVER DRUG CLAIMS
Carlton coach Denis Pagan says his players have his full backing in
the wake of the new drug claims levelled against the club by sacked
player Laurence Angwin.
Angwin, who was dumped last year for turning up for training under the
influence of ecstasy, told The Bulletin magazine that drug use was
rife among younger players in the AFL.
And he said three "higher profile" Carlton players had joined him and
team-mate Karl Norman in taking ecstacy the night before the training
session which led to his sacking.
Today Pagan said the club fully investigated the claims but found no
evidence to support the allegations.
"As coach of the Carlton Football Club, I can tell you I fully support
the playing group, and indeed remind you that it was the senior
playing group that brought the matter to our attention last year," he
said.
