BUS DRIVERS FOUND WITH MARIJUANA FIRED
Pair Had Lit Joint On Way To Work
Two local transit bus drivers caught with marijuana have been fired.
The uniformed Coast Mountain Bus drivers were discovered by police last
weekend with a lit joint in their car. They were reportedly headed in to work.
The company said Friday it has zero tolerance for booze and drugs and won't
let a few drivers ruin the credibility of the majority.
TransLink chairman Doug McCallum said the public demands clean drivers and
transport officials will act quickly to deal with drivers who are caught
with alcohol or drugs.
The two drivers -- who have both been with the company for about four years
- -- were in a personal vehicle when they were pulled over by the RCMP about
5 p.m. Sunday near the Port Mann Bridge.
Police discovered the joint and slapped the driver with a 24-hour-roadside
suspension, then called the Coast Mountain Bus Company to inform
supervisors of the employees' indiscretion.
A few weeks ago, two other drivers were dismissed following complaints
they'd been drinking on the job.
